- Penalty for late attendees will be implemented. Meetings for LUSC will be at 12:30 p.m. and the meeting proper will start at exactly 1:00 p.m. A fee of $5.00 will be taken from members who will be late.
- San Manuel Casino Fundraising Update
- 39 went to the said event and each paid $20.00. We had to pay $108.00 to the casino because we didn't fill the maximum capacity of the bus. Total funds raised are $692.00. (Rene and Dee Esperanza met them at the casino). Aside from the fun and pleasure of spending a wonderful day with friends, this is a very easy way to raise funds for the planned projects of LUSC. Everybody had a great time!
- Scholarship Project Update
- Manny Alvarez suggested a “revolving fund” of Php 20,000.00 per year for emergency expenses for the scholars. Instead of waiting for LUSC to send the money, they can get the necessary amount from that fund. So far, they have taken Php 4,400 from the Esmas' scholar's fund and will replenish that amount as soon as they receive the money from LUSC. Delia and the members agreed to this and will send out the money soon. Gener also suggested confirming if that includes the expenses from the individual scholars sponsored by some of our members.
- Currently, the amount per scholar per semester is Php 18,500. There is a lot of discussion about the present situation regarding the much-needed communication with the scholars and LUSC. There is a suggestion to contact Manny regarding this as well as setting up a date when we can expect to receive grade reports from the students. We also need to ask him if another scholar is in the same situation as Carla who can't graduate because of additional subjects, what are the conditions for that?
- The current location for the proposed artesian well project will be in Bgy. De La Paz. They received the okay from the mayor and hopefully, we will have an update next month.
- Gener also suggested a stipend or allowance for Class '67 who is doing a very good job in monitoring our students as well as spending time following up and planning LUSC's proposed projects to make it a reality. They have been holding meetings and taking trips at their own expense. Everybody agreed to send $200.00 before Christmas.
- Tax exemption and our current status with the IRS were brought up.
- LUSC's website will be updated by Emer Villamin and Lili Khan.
- Camping
- Dee Esperanza has reserved tent campsites for 25 people on Friday September 26 to Sunday, September 28, 2008 at San Onofre Recreation Beach at Camp Pendleton. We will be mailing out the flyers and waivers soon.
- Town Fiesta
- Delia reserved a hall on October 12, 2008, Sunday at Liberty Park. We have agreed to a “Filipiniana” theme. Details will be available soon.
The next meeting will be at the camping site. Having no further business to bring before the officers and members at this time, meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
