Luisianians USA of Southern California (LUSC) was established in 1979 to provide a way for kababayans in Southern California to stay in touch. Our mission has been expanded to help our kabayans in need in Luisiana. We have financed several community projects in Luisiana, including the provision of school supplies, playground equipments and street signs.
One of LUSC’s greatest accomplishments is the highly successful Scholarship Program. For more than a decade, LUSC has proudly sponsored hundreds of children to attend high school in Luisiana. LUSC looks forward to helping to ensure a bright future for so many talented young people in Luisiana. Recently, we added another program which is college scholarship program, for those students who are really deserving and talented.

We are now celebrating our 28th year anniversary since the formation of the association in 1979. Through our activities, we strive to provide a sense of community and pride in our Luisiana heritage. LUSC activities are “family” affairs because by sharing our culture with our children, we hope to encourage the younger generation to understand their heritage – including family and town traditions, native food, music, dance, and crafts. LUSC sponsors picnics, camping trips, fiesta celebrations and reunion gatherings in which Luisianians families re establish the bonds of friendship and samahan. In 1995, LUSC organized a reunion for Luis Bernardo Memorial High School graduates from 1962 to 1994. The three day fun filled affair was held in Luisiana and many graduates made a “Balikbayan” trip from numerous corners of the world. In 1997, LUSC hosted a memorable 1st grand reunion in Southern California. Again, Luisianians from USA, Canada, Australia and the Philippines converged and spent quality time with friends, former classmates and relatives.

In the year 2000, Luisianians Midwest hosted the 2nd grand reunion. Families, friends and former classmates gathered to have their individual reunion. This was also 3 day affair. Now it became a tradition that every 3 years Lusianians will have a grand reunion. 2003, the 3rd grand reunion was held in the Philippines which is also a very successful one. 2005, Luisianians from Vancouver Canada held the 4th grand reunion, at that time committees from different association voted our first Luisianians International president Mrs. Myrna Mecija Baculi, who was elected unanimously.

This year, 2007, the 5th grand reunion will be held in Baltimore, MD who will be hosted by The Luisianians of East Coast. This will be a 3 day affair from July 6, 7 &8. We hope to see you all there.
